Detail from "The Garden of Delights" (see another detail),
by Hieronymous van Aeken Bosch or El Bosco (b. Hertogenbosch 1450-1516) - El Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain.
Note: Bosco belonged to the Brotherhood of Our Lady and had ties with
the Bretheren of the Common Life, both deeply spiritual and ascetic
movements. Such ideas are reflected in Bosch's artistic depiction of
pleasures, temptations, cruelty, ambition and other ways that pave the
way to Hell.
