Model of the "Aesculapius Temple Complex" in Epidaurus -
Science Museum, London, Great Britain.
Note: The most important of the many shrines of
Asclepius built c. 250 B.C. Patients slept in
the long colonnaded buildings behind the round temple.
Devoted priests interpreted the dreams of patients who
upon leaving left "votive" tablets depicting the body
areas they "voted" or wished to be cured. ( Back to Illustrated Theme)
