Note: Ganesha, the Hindu god is represented by the body of a dwarf and the head of an elephant (long life and wisdom), the body of a dwarf with four arms.

Images of Ganesha are frequently placed above doorways. He is the remover of obstacles and lord of auspicious beginnings and is worshiped at the start of new undertakings such as weddings, trips and the new year. In this sense, he is akin to Hermes or Mercury as well as Janus.
