Note: Johan Braakensiek is mainly known for his political cartoons. "Deaf Man's Door" was painted during the 1930s slump showing the unemployed in front of a closed "Deaf Man's Door". Braakensiek was himself hard of hearing and was much involved in their cause. Revolutionary art inspired by the Bolshevik revolution portrays the working class as victimized. To what extent such works are art or propaganda remains an open question.
