The land of the Amazons, later of the Scythians and Sarmatians. Known as Khersonesus, currently the Autonomous Republic of Crimea as part of Ukraine. Note Chersonesus, not far from modern Yalta. Modern Kherson is a city near the point where the river Borysthenes (Dnieper) ends in the Black (Euxine) sea. Also note on the south western coast the city of "Odessus". Modern Odessa is located between the sites of the cities of Olbia and Larcine.
