"Allegory of Vanity", c. 1640 by Antonio de Pereda (1611-1678) - Kunst Museum, Vienna, Austria.

Note: the focus on a Cameo depicting Charles V of Austria or Carlos I of Spain. A winged spirit holds the world globe. Also note the gold coin depicting Augustus. Clocks, coins (monedas and medals), cards and skulls denote attributes of time and good fortune. Here the pretense is that the Habsburg royal house has roots as far back as the era of Caesar Augustus.
