Detail from "Amazome Blessee du type Sosicles (The Wounded Amazon of the Sosicles type)", 2nd century A.D. - Louvre Museum, Paris, France.

Note: The raised right arm exposes her wounded chest. This statue is a copy attributed to the sculptor Sosicles. The original by Polycletus was made for the sanctuary of Artemis at Ephesus. Since there were many versions of wounded Amazons, a competition was organized for the choice of the official one. In addition to Polycletus, who won the competition, other competitors included Cresilas, Phradmon and Phidias (see a copy of Phidias' sculpture).
