Telephus was the son of Heracles and Auge. He was abandoned on Mount Parthenius and nursed by a goat or a doe and later by kind shepherds. Telephus married a daughter of Priam but was so grateful to the Greeks for healing a severe wound that he fought with Greeks against Priam and the city of Troy. This fulfilled the prophecy by an Oracle that declared that the Greeks could not take Troy without the help of a son of Hercules.

Portrayed is Silenus who was ordered by Zeus to rescue Dionysos, his illegitimate son.
