"The duchess of Montesquiou-Frezensac" , c. 1910 (see detail)
by Oscar Kokoschka (1886-1960) - Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

Note: Victoria Massena d'Essling (1888-1919), married Joseph de Montesquiou-Frezensac in 1907
and perished from consumption or tuberculosis in a Swiss sanatorium (sanitorium) for

Kokoschka, a leading impressionist was able to reveal his subjects psyche and soul. He did
so by encouraging his subjects to freely move around as he painted directly without preliminary
sketches.
