"Loth et ses filles" (see detail), c. 1651 by Giovanni Fracesco
Barbieri or Le Guerchin (1591-1651) - Louvre Museum, Paris, France.
Note: The Bible states (Genesis 19, 30-38) that God disapproved
of the morals prevailing in Sodom. The city was to be incinerated.
Only Lot and his family was to be lead away by angelic
messengers. The wife of Lot was transformed into a pillar
of salt for looking back at the annihilated city against the
wishes of God. Later Lot was seduced by his daughters to
engage in incest. The descendants became the Ammonites
regarded as enemies of Israel.
