"The Departure of Lot and his Family from Sodom", c. 1613 by
Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) - Museum Unknown.
Note: The Bible states that God disapproved of the morals
prevailing in Sodom. The city was to be incinerated.
Only Lot and his family was to be lead away by angelic
messengers. Against the order of God, the wife of Lot looked back at the doomed city for which she was transformed into a pillar
of salt. Later Lot was seduced by his daughters
to engage in incest. The descendants became the Ammonites,
regarded as enemies of Israel.
