"Achilles tussen de dochters van Lycomedes" (see detail) by
Erasmus I Quelllinus (1607-1678) - Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Belgium.
Note: The invulnerable Achilles did not wish to go to
war. An oracle vaticinated that Achilles would perish in
the war against Troy. To avoid this fate, Achilles tried
to hide by trans vesting or dressing as a woman. Becoming
a transvestite did not help Achilles. The ruse failed
when Ulyses and Diomedes visited the residence and met
Deidamia, the daughter of Ligyron, who was alredy pregnant
by Achilles.
