Part D

Terrifying Tremor

TERRORISM arises from ideas emanating from TERRA and ZEAL augmented by notions from TREMBLE, IDEOLOGY, RELIGION, FANATIC, FAITH, RADICAL, BOND, BOUND, BAND, BANDIT, DOGMA, FEAR, VIOLENCE, ASSASSIN, VICTIM, TERRITORY, PATRIOTISM, PARTISAN, SUBVERT, COVERT and WAR.

One succinct path to grasp the SENSE of the complex of ideas that nurture TERRORISM is illuminated by poets, writers and slogans used and abused by leading terrorists.

"The personal has no social significance."
Lazar Kaganovich.
(Henchman of Josef Stalin and architect of
"Red Terror" "purges" in Ukraine.)

"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori."
(It is sweet and proper to die for your country)
Homer.
(Some terrorist are promised Paradise, others Glory.)

"Aeschylus wrote about Agamemnon
who sacrificed his daughter Iphygenia
by order of an oracle ...
a cold and abstract belief ... a superstition
that ended the life of an innocent ...
recently innocents were assassinated
(in Russia, Cambodia, Madrid, London, India,
New York, Oklahoma, Israel, Lebanon ...)
by some terrorists
who also listened to the words of
somebody also illuminated ...
once again an abstraction
prevented the vision of the concrete ...
for the assassins it was
an act of war ...
a transplant of ideals into crime ..."

See parts A, B, and C.

Terrorism continued ...
