It is a WONDER how the mind can WANDER as when ideas in HAND or CHIRO in Greek point to "MANual" and to physicians who heal with their hands as do CHIROpractors and SURGEONS. Exploration of SURGERY underscores how surgical procedures WOUND and TEAR tissues which HURT patients make them SORE and at times full of SORROW. Surgical LACERATIONS are mostly caused by MANual acts which points to LACERTUS, the Latin term for foreARM. From LACERTUS we stumble upon LACHRYMA as if to underscore that LACHRYMOUS WEEPING and LAMENT are not rare after surgery.

In contrast to surgeons, other humans may use their MANual dexterity not to cure but to MANGLE, MAIM and MUTILATE others. Cynics coined the saying "Lupus est homo homini, non homo quom qualis sit non novit" for "man is no man but a wolf to a stranger". It is undeniable that some humans TEAR others more viciously than a wolf could.

The words WOUND, TEAR, INJURY, SORE, and HURT underscore that mortals are VULNERABLE as does VULNERAR, the Spanish word for INJURY. An additional dimension is added by SOROM which in Ukrainian and other Slavic languages denotes SHAME and PITY. One synoptic view is that all of the above cause HARM to HARMONY.

HARM HARMING HARMONY can easily conjure ideas of INJURED JUSTICE. Some would say that the task of JUST JUSTICE is to ARTiculate the truth based on facts in the interest of HARmony. Many would agree that societies incapable of ARTiculating JUST JUSTICE are as dysfunctional as a hand with ARThritis. Returning to SOROM or self SHAME, perhaps this is the essence of ethics since it represents a natural inhibitor of inJURious impulses. On the other hand, many would agree that HARM combined with GRIEF can promptly become a GRAVE matter as is GRAVIDITY. In fact, ANGRY and agGRAVATED inJURED persons, particularly those who feel GRAVE PAIN, SORROW and SHAME, may conclude that their GRIEVANCES are unJUST. Anglo-Saxon JURISprudence has enGRAVEd procedures stressing the roe of JURy trials as an avenue to pursue JUStice. In biologic terms, the ancient terms IUS, JUS, JUST, IUGUM or JUGUM lend a sense of GRAVITY to ideas in words such as YOKE, CONJUGATION, ZYGOTE, ENZYME, ZEUS and ZOO.

To close, WOUND implies the effect of an acute injurious external agent. SORE implies PAIN and may denote chronicity. ULCER denotes "unhealing" thus chronic and often implies painlessness. ULCUS in Ukrainian refers solely to a peptic ulceration which can certainly cause pain. Please explore related overviews concerned with HAND, CHEIROPRACTOR and SURGERY.
