Exchange of Ideas in Words:

Priyas in Sanskrit or Pryatel in Ukrainian point toward Amicable Amigo or Friend. In essence, the core ideas have to do with "Ego" or "I" and with "Will". If these do not surrender some of their territory, friendship has little room to blossom. An amicable (amistad) relationship, as denoted by "am ego or amigo", does imply in some sense, the fusion of two egos ("kindred souls"). An excess of "self love" or "I will" as denoted by egotism, egoism or Narcissism, stifles love and friendships.

(antagonism)

Regarding torture, an example is provided by events during the "Reform" started by Luther. Religious antagonisms caused many agonies including by the use of torture applied on a PRN ("Pro Re Nata") or "as need arises" basis. One popular method of torture was the "rack".

After several centuries, torture became illegal because it represents a denial of human rights. In fact, illegal governmental torture has persisted. In Israel, President Ariel Sharon is striving to legalize the torture of suspects of terrorism. One excuse cited is "it will save time".

Those who suffered from a "crick in the neck" understand torture because torticollis (contorted neck or tort collis = neck) is quite painful.

Anglophones suffer because of an over abundance of lawyers and an excessive automobile dependency. Consequently, Anglophones are quite aware of "tort law" and car engine "torque" power. Those who speak Romance and Slavic "tongues" relate "tort" with the delight of eating torte ("cake" is a prefered term). Both panoramas are linked with ancient Greece and a popular "bread twist" or roll then called "tortidion" or "artidion".
